GASP! What is This?

Developing a new web site is fun and challenging! When the development is going on during a pandemic, that makes it even stranger!

That is why the development of gasp.network is taking place in a very transparent manner. You will see what we are doing as we do it in some cases! So you may see incomplete pages, photos, and videos. Don’t be alarmed!

Due to the radically increased interest in tennis and racquets our time-line for GASP! has been massively changed!

So, it will be September 2022, when gasp.network will be officially “released” to members and the public. In the meantime, we invite your ideas and suggestions!

Have you ever wondered what tennis racquet “A” would be like with string “C” at a reference tension of “X”, or, what is the in-plane stiffness of racquet “Z”?  Submit your first data request here!

About GASP!

The Gasp.network has been languishing in my mind for a long time so during this time of virus-induced delays in everything we do and can do, I thought is a good time to get this idea out of my mind and into yours!

“GASP” came from an occasion we received several racquets to work on that had been strung elsewhere, and when I saw them I gasped!  The gasp.network was born!

For all the years we have been doing this it has been to “educate and learn” whatever we can about tennis racquets and the string that goes in racquets.  This is serious stuff… I often say “We are not sending people to the moon.  This is much more complicated!”

The gasp.network site is intended to be a little “lighter” in tone and a place where ideas can be exchanged and tested by us to determine what we are learning!

Why is GASP.network a membership-based site?

  • We are going to be using our resources, racquets, string, stringing machines, diagnostic equipment and time to make this an interesting and productive site.

Here are some things we will provide members:

  • Members can request a specific string, racquet, tension and one of four (4) stringing machines.
  • We will string the racquet and take all the standard diagnostic data and publish it on this site.
  • Members will have access to all members, if desired, to exchange ideas.
  • We can generate comparative data for racquets and string combinations.

This process will entail:

  • string testing
  • racquet testing
  • and racquet customization

therefore the first one hundred (100) members of gasp. network site will have a one-time membership fee of $40.

Just some of the processes we intend to carry out will be:

  • Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS) of any string
  • Knot Strength of any string
  • Creep characteristics of any string
  • String bed stiffnesses (SBS) of various materials
    • and understanding what characteristics are important and how we collect meaningful data
  • In Plane Stiffness of racquets

Members will have these choices of stringing machines:

  • Babolat Racket Station
  • Wilson Baiardo
  • True Tension Professional
  • True Tension E-Professional

Members will have diagnostic data from:

  • Racquet Quest Questron
    • Stress/Strain
    • Ultimate Tensile Strength
    • Knot Strength
      • Plus some other interesting data
  • Babolat RDC
  • Beers ERT1000
  • Ereca Systems Electronic Balance
  • Racquet Quest String Bed Stiffness Device
  • Racquet Quest Triple Balance System
  • Racquet Quest Creep Diagnostics Station
  • Racquet Quest Coefficient of Friction Diagnostics Station

Members will have diagnostic results for:

  • String Material Strength
  • String Bed Stiffness
  • Effective Stiffness
  • Racquet Stiffness
    • In Plane Stiffness
  • String Power Potential
      • And more

Members will discover:

  • What effect(s) string preparation (stretching) will have on SBS
  • What effect(s) string spreaders will have on SBS
  • What the natural ratio of the racquet is
  • What does reference tension really mean in terms of SBS?
    • And more
